        SOCIALIZING DOG

Socializing Dog

You will often hear of people socializing their dog. This concept is poorly understood by dog breeders and owners. The socialization period with other dogs occurs from the ages of four to six weeks, and socializing with people from four to 12 weeks. So the dog to dog socializing period is usually over before you buy your puppy at perhaps seven to eight weeks of age. In any case. Socializing in any form ends at about 12 weeks of age (three months). Which is about one month after you buy your puppy. Socializing in dogs is similar to imprinting in horses in that it is the period during which the animal permanently bonds to almost any animals or species that it comes into contact with. Thus a puppy bonds to humans in its first month at your home.
STARTING TRAINING
So, when do you start training a dog? As with imprinting in horses, huge advances in training can occur in puppies under the age of 12 weeks. Some readers and viewers may remember my early training of Clyde, our Centerfield Terrier. We got him at seven and a half weeks of age and half an hour to train him to train him to come, sit, chase a ball and return it to your hand. All at the age of seven and a half weeks.
He is still proficient at these tasks as an adult dog. I believe that much conventional dog training is outdated and in any case inappropriate to your needs with a pet. The idea of commands tells you a lot about the trainer. I don’t command my dogs to do anything. I request things and have a relationship with the dog.
